Denise Clark, RN
Denise Clark was born and raised in Roxboro, NC. She began attending Watts Hospital School of Nursing in 1976 and graduated in 1979 and has been a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina ever since. From there she worked at Person Memorial Hospital in a variety of departments and positions for about 20 years. In 1999, Kendall Oliver, the owner of Cambridge Hills) asked Denise if she would like to be the Administrator of a new Assisted Living Facility that he was building in Roxboro, NC. Denise accepted his offer and pitched in with ground-floor planning and decorating. On February 7, 2000, Denise helped to open the doors of Cambridge Hills to the public and admitted 6 residents on that first day.
“Long term care is not something that I ever thought I’d be interested in but it has been a very humbling and educational experience for me,” said Denise, “I really like the relationships that we develop with family members and residents. I enjoy watching the staff develop and grow and I find it rewarding that we make such a difference in people’s lives.”
Denise has been married for 34 years and has one son and one daughter, who also live in Roxboro. Denise enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with family and friends. “Making memories is a very important part of our lives,” says Denise. Denise is an avid walker and gets up early to do so five mornings out of each week with her father. “I walk because it is good for my mind and I enjoy spending time with my Daddy.” “I consider myself to be very blessed.”
Sandra Hicks, a native of Person County has lived in Roxboro most of her life. Sandra brings 15 years of experience in Human Resources, but her passion lies in Senior Care.
She began volunteering with the Respite program for Alzheimer’s Disease at the Person County Senior Center and was later hired as their Activity Coordinator, then later appointed Director for the Person County Council on Aging. Prior to joining the Cambridge Hills team, she served as the Life Enrichment Director and later Marketing Director with Emeritus at Danville (now Brookdale Danville Piedmont)
in Danville, VA.
Sandra holds a certification in Human Resource Management, Activity Professional, and
Senior Center Management.
Sandra has a sincere passion for older adults as well as her hometown of Roxboro. She is so happy to be a part of the team at Cambridge Hills. “My goal is to assist individuals and families when making decisions about finding a new home, where they can be prosperous, well-cared for and happy,” said Sandra. “I love working with older adults and making them smile. Working in senior care brings me joy on a daily basis. I treasure the relationships I have built with our residents and their families.”
Sandra has two children and two grandchildren who reside in Western North Caroline and North Florida. She enjoys traveling to spend time with them as often as possible. Sandra loves singing, volunteering, as well as traveling and public speaking.
Many weekends throughout out the year, you will find Sandra traveling with the Memory Makers Travel Team, a leisure travel group she organized. Sandra is also very active in the Person County Community.
She has been an advocate for The Fight to Cure Alzheimer’s Disease for over 20 years.
Director of Personal Care
Amy was born and raised in Person County, North Carolina. She attended Durham Technical Community College and Person County Community College for her Certified Nursing Assistant I & II certificates which were completed in 1993. In 2000 Amy went back to PCC to obtain her Medication Technician certificate. She is also currently working towards her Administrator’s License through the North Carolina Long Term Care Association.
Prior to coming to Cambridge Hills, Amy worked at Northwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Durham, NC as a CNA and Rehab Assistant. Shortly before Cambridge Hills opened, Kendall Oliver, the owner of the facility, approached Amy to let her know of the assisted living facility he was in the process of building in Roxboro, NC and offered her a position as Supervisor in Charge. She accepted his offer and began working in her new position when Cambridge Hills opened its doors in 2000. Her hard work and leadership skills were recognized in 2001 when Amy was offered her current position Director of Personal Care.
Amy has been married for 16 years and has two daughters who are 21 and 25 years of age. She loves to read all types of books and especially enjoys romance novels and the Bible. “I enjoy shopping ANYWHERE. But my favorite things to shop for are pocketbooks and shoes,” said Amy. She values her personal time and looks forward to having time to reflect upon her life and the impact of her life upon others.
“I have always liked working with older people and find my work very rewarding. The residents are very appreciative of what we do for them here and they have so much wisdom to share with us and lessons to teach us. “
Amy’s passion for working with the elderly began when she was a teenager and her sister, who was in her mid-twenties at the time, worked with the elderly in the community. Amy would often accompany her sister on these home visits and developed a passion for caring and taking care of older adults through the passions of her sister.
Business Office Manager
Lou Harris has lived in Person County, North Carolina for all of her life. She is married and has one daughter and one son who both live in Roxboro, NC. Both of Lou’s children are paramedics; one working in Durham and the other in Roxboro.
Lou retired in 2010 from the Department of Social Services in Roxboro, NC, where she was working as the Income Maintenance Case Worker. Directly after retiring, Lou came to work for Cambridge Hills as the Business Office Manager. Lou completes a variety of task ranging from human resources, residential personal funds, office managerial duties, accounts receivable and payable and more. She is a valued member of the Cambridge Hills team because of her hard work and positive attitude. Lou greets a challenge with a smile on her face and always makes time for everyone.
“I have always wanted to work in an assisted living facility. I just really love elderly people,” said Lou.
Lou loves to read all types of books and really enjoys mysteries and Christian novels. She loves to spend time with her family and her three beautiful grandchildren who are 15, 12 and 9 years of age. Lou loves to work in her yard and finds the finished result very rewarding.
“I love my job. Cambridge Hills has such a family atmosphere. Everyone really does work together as a team here. I enjoy my co-workers and the residents very much. The residents bring me such joy everyday and I love to build relationships with them and hear their stories. There is so much to learn from our elders and they have given so much love to us, so I try my best to give that love back to them.
Tammy has worked at Cambridge Hills for 12 years. She started out working as a CNA and Med Tech and after a year her enthusiasm, creativity and passion for her work earned her the position of Activity Director which she has been enjoying ever since.
Tammy was born and raised in Roxboro, North Carolina. She is married and has one son. In her spare time she likes to read, ride on her four wheeler, go to the lake and spend time with friends and family.
In 1998, Tammy received her Certified Nurse’s Assistant certificate as well as her Medicine Technician certificate. She then attended Caswell County Community College where she earned her Activities Certificate in 2002. She became nationally certified through COAP (Coalition of Activity Professionals).
Tammy is in charge of planning and implementing all of the resident activities at Cambridge Hills. She spends time finding out what the residents like to do and incorporates everyone’s favorite activities into her monthly plans. She also plans trips and outings to restaurants, movies, plays, shopping centers etc. throughout the month. Tammy keeps the residents busy and is always open to new and exciting ideas for fun things to do.
Food Services Director
Fred was born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey and then moved to Durham, NCin 1996 to be closer to his Mother who had moved previously. He attended East Orange Computer Technical School and obtained a certificate in data entry. He then attended Restaurant School of New York and became a certified Chef 1992. He then began working at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, NJ as the Sous Chef for approximately three years. When he moved to Durham he began worked as the Head Chef at Spaghetti Freddy’s. He became Head Chef at Northwood Nursing and Rehabilitation and remained in that position until 2000. Fred had been asked by Kendall Oliver, the owner of Cambridge Hills, if he would like to be a part of the new assisted living facility that he was building in Roxboro, NC. Fred accepted the offer and became the Director of Food Services for Cambridge Hills in 2000.
Fred not only cooks the residents three well-balanced meals per day, but he also writes meal plans, makes snacks for all shifts, and orders food and coordinates deliveries. The residents love Fred’s cooking and often encourage him to make their favorite foods frequently.
“I love to cook. Period. I love the look on the residents faces when they enjoy a meal that I prepare and their compliments mean so much to me. I enjoy making special dishes for holidays and special occasions and being able to get really creative with my cooking,” said Fred.
Fred loves to fish, in fact, he often enters Bass Fishing Tournaments. In 2011, Fred won 4th place at the Jordan Lake Bass Fishing Tournament. He is also an avid exerciser and can be found in the gym at least three days per week and encourages healthy habits in his staff and also the residents.
Director of Housekeeping
Delois has been working here since Cambridge Hills opened in June of 2000. She started her career here in working in the kitchen where she cleaned tables and helped the residents get what they needed. About 6 months later Delois’s hard work and dedication paid off because she was offered the Director of Housekeeping position, where she’s remained ever since.
Delois is in charge of the cleaning of all areas of our facility. She oversees and helps to clean residents’ rooms, bathrooms, hallways, common areas and staff areas. She makes sure that rooms are sparkling clean after a resident moves out so that the next person has a brand new room to move into. She also does ‘on call’ cleaning when the staff or a resident accidentally spills something or makes a mess. She also oversees room changes where all of a resident’s belongings need to be transferred from one room to another.
“I really like what I do. I enjoy the challenges that I work through on a daily basis and working with the residents is really rewarding. I like to stay busy and this job is something that I look forward to in the mornings,” said Delois.
Delois has two children, a boy and a girl, who are 46 and 43 years old now. Jeffrey and Eva both live in Roxboro, NC , close to their Mother. Delois was born in Durham, NC and moved to Roxboro with her parents when she was about 10 years old and has been here ever since. “I am a Roxboro patriot and have no plans of ever leaving,” said Delois, “This town is my home and I like the sense of camaraderie among the people who live here.”
Outside of work Delois likes to watch TV (particularly the soap Opera The Young and the Restless), listen to music and keep up with current events in the news. She also enjoys spending time with the newest member of her family, Chelsea, her 9 week old Chihuahua/Poodle mix.
Maintenance Supervisor & Safety Director
Randall has worked at Cambridge Hills for roughly 4 years. Prior to coming to Cambridge Hills Randall worked in a management position at another company in Roxboro for many years.
Randall is in charge of the safety of the building and all of the residents and staff. He strategizes the safest fire escape routes as well as emergency weather plans. He then coordinates and executes all of the safety drills and ensures that the staff are educated and skilled in safety procedures.
Randall is also in charge of the maintenance of the building. He works on anything from air conditioning units, polishing floors, plumbing issues, electrical problems and takes care of day-to-day maintenance requests.
“I enjoy my job here because I have a wide variety of tasks on a daily basis so I’m always doing something different. I really like talking and interacting with the residents while I am doing repairs and different things around the building. I feel that I’m keeping the residents and staff safe and happy. I enjoy being around all the different people and hopefully the things I do here makes them feel at home.”
Randall has been married for over 28 years. He has one son who also lives in Roxboro. He has one grandson and one granddaughter. When he’s not at work he enjoys watching Nascar, Amazing Race and NCIS. He loves spending time with his grand-kids at the beach surf fishing. He listen to all types of music with his grandchildren.
